Aerotow is the most popular way to get into the air. The glider is attached to a powered aircraft by a tow rope. The powered aircraft tows the glider gently into the air, then releases it at a height decided by the glider pilot. The glider pilot then flies the glider using the rising air to stay airborne.
The glider is attached to a winch by a cable. The winch rapidly winds in the cable, launching the glider into the air. It's a thrilling, efficient and cheap method of launching, it's what we use most of the time at the Cambridge Gliding Club to get airborne!
Simulator training is a great way to learn to fly. It is a cost-effective way to learn the basics of flying a glider. It is also a great way to practice your flying skills and to learn how to handle different situations.
Ground school is a great way to learn the theory of flying. You can expect to learn the basics of flying a glider, safety procedures at the airfield, and how to help out on the ground. After all, gliding is a social sport, only made possible by other members!
